Usage
Example of Rule
A participial phrase at the beginning of a sentence must refer to the grammatical subject.

The word walking refers to the subject of the sentence, not to the woman. If the writer wishes to make it refer to the woman, he must recast the sentence: | |
Writing Example “There will always be a trend but within the trend, I care more about what is going to make me stick out in this trend.” –says Eboni Mitchell, a recent high school graduate and upcoming fashion designer from Baltimore, Maryland. Eboni uses vocabulary such as sophistication, elegance, street, edgy, and daily observation to describe her personal style and future fashion line. Anything with a bow screams Eboni! For my writing sample, I chose to go with the first draft of my magazine copy. It definitely relates to the beginning of the chapter when he talks about words being cheap and how it can make your writing look bad. After reading I did get a different look on the words "upcoming, notables and "greats". Another example is in the second sentence where it states Eboni uses vocabulary such as sophistication, elegance, street, edgy and daily observation to describe her personal style and future fashion line. Some of the words could have been said differently or not used at all making the sentence longer than it I intended for it to be. |

School Websites
SVA
School of Visual Arts
http://www.sva.edu
When searching for colleges, SVA was one of the schools I was interest in attending. I was drawn by the brochure and catalog and how it incorporated a lot of art. The design was edgy, innovative and clean. The website definitely draws me in and have all the elements I looked for when researching colleges to attend. I love how it incorporates student work and gives you a feel of being a student.
SCAD
www.scad.edu
SCAD is one of the top visual arts schools in the country. The website is clean, organized and easy to maneuver As an artist, the website doesn't draw me in well enough for me to be interested in reading the material and finding out what type of programs they offer.
